Frequently Asked Question #56
Can I modify the default sort option used on my search results?
By default, your search results are sorted / ranked using cutting-edge search algorithms which take into account a number of factors including your search term's word proximity, frequency, and position within a document. This is defined as the 'Relevance' sort option.

There may be times, when a site provides time-sensitive information, that you wish for your search results to be sorted by 'Date', displaying the most recently created / edited documents first, rather than by calculated 'Relevance'. To change your default sorting option, login to your account, select the 'Spider' tab, 'relevance controls' option, and click the 'Rank' link next to the 'Sort Order' field.

Additionally, the search results give your visitors the ability to re-sort the search results by either Date or Rank. If you do not wish to give your visitors the capability to re-sort your search results, you may turn this option off by un-checking the 'Display Sort Option' field provided in the same location described above.

If you wish to influence the position of specific pages within your search results when a particular keyword is searched, please view the following FAQ.
